Why is my family's phone in the UK saying "The number you have dialed is not

recognized.Please check the numbe? I have speaking with my family in the UK on my USA cellphone(Where I live) for several months now, and all of a sudden, when I call their number
from any phone I get this message: "The number you have dialed is not recognized. Please check the number".
I am very worried about them and I really need to know what this means.
