Why is my daughter's fish bowl so smelly?

We have a regular sized fish bowl with 2 small gold fish in it. I'm constantly cleaning it out cuz it get dirty really fast and has a horrible odor! We don't put a lot of fish food in it and i clean it out at least once a week.
WTF???
no filter.
so i need a bigger bowl?
