Why is my dad's service in military still considered classified?

Someone has royally screwed up. According to my father he was a low-rung grunt. His service was in the 60s and he was stationed in Germany, then also in England at Menwith Hill military base. I'm running into trouble getting his service records from the VA. I'm angry and tired of the run-around after six months!! Is there some magic phrase I need to use when dealing with these people?!! My dad lived in Virginia, Maryland, and DC all his life until now. Do I need to ask someone down there?

Why do you need his records? If his records are classified, then your dad obviously felt you did not have the need to know.
