Why is it when you listen to rock music people call it " emo music"?

i listen to mostly classic rock , punk , metal ect (mostly 70s style)
i dont dress emo or anything either i just wear my band shirts. WTF IS WRONG WITH THE WORLD THESE DAYS ....
