find it very difficult to read or finish and 5 years later you pick up that same book and thoroughly enjoy it without any difficulty with reading it?

Do our minds develop steadily if you continue to read daily?

It's easier 5 years later because you've read more and you're better at reading. It could also be that the books more suited to your age 5 years on.
I don't think the mind ever develops steadily, it probably does it in spurts according to how good the thing you're reading is. Still, whatever you read will educate you, even if it only teaches you what a really bad book is like.

Our minds do keep developing. I had that happen with "Oliver Twist." When I was in high school, I struggled with it, but then 5 years later, I picked it up, and read it all the way through and really enjoyed it!

Yes! I think our reading taste changes as well.

I know when I first read The Great Gatsby, I hated it. But, I read it again in my early years of college and loved it---Fitzgerald is now one of my favorite writers.
