It helps us with balance, although not a lot, it still helps. Like if you try running really fast with out moving your hands you'll find it's a bit harder to push yourself forward.
I'm also guessing that it just may be in our genes because we used to be hunched over and used our hands to move around. (As in cavemen or an ape if you beleive in that theory). Like if you look at an animal on all fours it moves its front in back legs in the same motion we swing our hands as we walk.
