Why is it that they made Black history month the shortest month of the year?

Seriously. They had 11 others to choose from. What made them choose the only one with less than 30 days?I'm not black, I'm white. I was just curious as to why. Heather and Paoloph answered the question for me though. So thanks to them.

wow, you may be the only one in the world wondering about it. I know I wasn't

well, it is longer than Hispanic history month, or white history month, or asian history month

Because even more disadvantaged groups have grabbed the other 11 months first. At least they don't have to share like the Asian and Pacific Islander month.I hope this helps.

It had less to do with the amount of days in February as it had to do with black accomplishments and milestones that were accheived during Civil Rights in the month of February:February 23, 1868:W. E. B. DuBois, important civil rights leader and co-founder of the NAACP, was born.February 3, 1870:The 15th Amendment was passed, granting blacks the right to vote.February 25, 1870:The first black U.S. senator, Hiram R. Revels (1822-1901), took his oath of office.February 12, 1909:The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was founded by a group of concerned black and white citizens in New York City.February 1, 1960:In what would become a civil-rights movement milestone, a group of black Greensboro, N.C., college students began a sit-in at a segregated Woolworth's lunch counter.February 21, 1965:Malcolm X, the militant leader who promoted Black Nationalism, was shot to death by three Black Muslims.

The two have nothing to do with each other. Don't take offense for something like that.

Well, February is the month we celebrate MLK Jr.' birthday and is also the month we used to celebrate Washington's and Lincoln's birthdays so why not Black History Month?

The remembrance originated in 1926 by historian Carter G. Woodson as "Negro History Week". Woodson chose the second week of February because it marked the birthdays of two Americans who greatly influenced the lives and social condition of African Americans: former President Abraham Lincoln and abolitionist and former slave Frederick Douglass.Note: how strange that the Spanish word for black is replaced by asterisks.

Yes I have been in many different kinds of situations where I almost lost my life. An example of one of those situations is when we and my brother were walking in a woods. There was this red truck that followed us on the trail, we then turned around and walked toward the truck. The truck then got stuck into the sand and the people in the truck were cussing at us and saying they were going to kill us. Next, we ran and ran from them but they followed and kept saying, "when we get you we are going to kill you!" Finally, we hid behind a bush and eventually they left because they could not find us. It was a pretty scary experience. But by the grace of god they got stuck in time for us to run. If that did not happen we would have walked up to them and most likely would have been killed. Nobody should ever believe that they have years and years to live because anything can happen.Huh, what happened? Anybody who sees the answer here please realize that I was trying to answer another question and for some very odd reason, my question was posted here. Sorry about that. I am having problems with a virus that could be the reason for why this has happened.

In 1926, Carter G. Woodson, a black man who's a noted historian, began Negro History Week in February. He chose February because both abolitionist Fredrick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln, two men he considered important in blacks' lives, were born in February. The celebration was later extended to one month.

We have it good, hispanics only get a week. I mean asians do get the whole month of may but still be grateful, Black history month used to be black history week. Stop complaining.
