There were various different reasons that each ethnic group came over to the New World, but the most prevalent one for the majority of immigrants, was religious persecution in their individual country.Whether they were Jewish, Catholic, Protestant, or anything else, they all faced imprisonment, death, beatings, etc. for practicing their religion openly. Most governments in Europe, at that period of time, did not have tolerance for individuals who showed faith in a Supreme Being, other than the ruling King, or Queen.
