Why is it that GONZO uses only clip-openings?

I noticed a trend on GONZO series that, instead of exclusive footage, they use clips of the actual series' episodes on their openings.

I heard that it's a way to save the budget, but this is still just not exactly professional, i sit?

What's your take on this?

Not all of them. See: Last Exile, Kiddy Grade (2 versions, to boot!), Chrono Crusade, both Gate Keepers series, Solty Rei, Red Garden, Bokurano, etc. They do it on occasion, but not all the time. I think it might be due to the many different shows they used work on at one time, or it may be even a conscious stylistic decision.

Yeah not sure where you're getting that theory from actually since I don't recall a Gonzo show off the top of my head that does that and I know for sure Samurai 7 didn't.

Well, I guess I must've rushed myself. I'm supposed to mean some Gonzo productions have clip-openings.

Thing is, such popular series such as Full Metal Panic (the first season), Gantz and Witcrabroadlade got this treatment, which isn't exatly right.

I know Trinity Blood had one, but that was such a short show with many rotating characters. Maybe they didn't want to produce an original opening.

I haven't really watched the other two, but clip show or not, the Gantz opening ROCKS. I don't think there's any reason a clip opening can't be awesome if it's done right. Remeraber all those sweet clip openings and promos Toonami used to make?

I have no problems with Gonzo's openings.

I like clip show openings more than original scenes.
Original scene openings rip you off because you never get to see the events in them occur in the series.

I'm looking at you Inuyasha and Fullmetal Alchemist.

Basilisk doesn't.

Speed Grapher doesn't.

Chrono Crusade doesn't.

Peacemaker doesn't.

Witcrabroadlade's first OP doesn't.

Samurai 7's second OP doesn't.

Half of Vandread's season one OP doesn't.

I think a clip opening is good to start, because it can keep the gradual introduction theme going. In Samurai 7, this works because the first OP implies that Kyuzo is an enemy. By the second op, we know he's one of the seven.

Some people will whine about EVERYTHING. It's not like I've seen a billion complaint threaRAB over Gonzo's openings. You're calling more attention to it than anyone else.

Neither do Hellsing or Desert Punk. (Though in the latter's case, that's because it was live action )

I thought Samurai 7 had only one opening?
