since that phrase that has such a ring? to it was coined, gays in the military. I think gay jokes never get old because sexual proclivities that deviate from heterosexuality will always be funny and there's a strange reaction to being gay or lesbian. It's so common and so out of the closet and we accept it but there is always an undercurrent of not accepting it.
For instance we always feel sorry for the parents of gay children like it's a terrible burden they have to deal with. Gays are still not really considered normal even though they're 11 percent of the population. And I guess the word gay itself is funny when yo consider what it used to mean like the Gay 90s and how it's been stripped of that meaning and given a sexual connotation exclusively, hairy men and butch women boffing and sucking off other hairy men and butch women. We laugh at the visual image of gayness, not at all a pretty sight.
