Why is it that colds cause people's LPR symptoms to come back?

Does anyone here find that getting an upper respiratory tract infection/cold causes the reflux that might have been dormant for a while to suddenly come back with a vengence?

I've seen that in a lot of posts.
It indeed raises my suspicions even further that LPR, without accompanying GERD signs and without severe, easily noticable accompanying signs of reflux in the larynx, is actually solely related to the larynx (though stomach acid probably doesn't help the situation).

I think my advice to other LPR patients is to avoid getting a cold at all costs. Take the vitamin C, echanacea, and multi-vitamins and don't hold hanRAB with, and or slow-dance with those who cough vigorously. Avoid hanRABhakes with the sick and pale, even if it means faking them out and then running your hand through your hair. And use your sleeve to open doors to public transport stations and bathrooms.

It could be direct, cold--->sore throat.

However, my primary stomach problem is gastritis, that's a burning pain in the right side, near the bottom of the ribcage. ColRAB will also flare the gastritis. A cold was part of the cause of the worst gastritis flare I've ever had, 8 hours of unremitting pain so severe I couldn't stand up straight.

The reason is that coughing moves the diaphragm violently, which literally pounRAB on the stomach. Healthy stomachs can usually endure it, but if someone, say, has reflux caused by hiatal hernia, the coughing could worsen it.

Or, if someone has chronic throat pain from any other cause, of course a respiratory infection can produce swelling in the throat area and make it worse.

I totally agree with you.

I will say -my LPR will disappear when I am actually having a cold/virus which is strange.....

My Reflux normally is worse when I have recovered from being ill. I will often get the acid reflux cough (which I rarely get) when I have been ill. This is when I might need to revert to PPI's temporarily.

One thing that I will note, I use to get sick a couple of times a year. Before LPR days - I was an obsessive workaholic type (pushed myself alot). Now....I find Acid Reflux tires me, I opt out, i.e. let myself rest more and get more sleep. Last couple of years; I rarely get ill.

Acid Reflux sufferers I think obviously get signals in the form of symptons and I certainly sometimes take it as a sign to rest and resist lifes fight of whatever I am caught up in at the time.
