Why is it so important to be green?

I mean, I love fast, loud cars and I have a few, they're enjoyable. I don't understand these people with their Priuses thinking they're all green and doing us all a favor. That car is so quiet in a suburban area that someone who didn't hear it coming could get hurt! I get 78 mpg in my diesel, which is a lot better than the Prius' 45. Also, why recycle, it costs me money to recycle, more than I would like to spend. Why pay for trash AND recycling pickups? And why waste all that money on solar when I can pay half the price for normal power from my local coal plants? I don't get what the big deal is, why don't we just wait for technology to improve so we can save money and move to alternative energy when all our current sources run out. We're advancing fast enough so that we'll have options when fossil fuels run out, why jump the gun and waste money?
Approximately 80% of our air pollution stems from hydrocarbons released by vegetation, so let's not go overboard in setting and enforcing tough emission standards from man-made sources.

It's the latest fad, just like the environmental movement of the 80s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle ring any bells?). It'll likely die off in a few more years and then come back again in another decade or so.

Truth be told... being "green" might reduce personal emissions, but in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter a bit because the big polluters are industrial. And more often than not, they only claim to be green because they've purchased carbon offset credits (which do nothing whatsoever to actually reduce emissions...).
