Why is it lag whenever i play a DVD movie using VLC media players in my Toshiba Laptop ?

I tried to play a DVD movie in my laptop because my DVD player broke, but it always lags whenever i play it. Not the computer, but the video.At first i thought it was the DVD movie, so i tried different DVDs but it still wont work, it led me to believe that it's the laptops fault. Help.
I can't find the Toshiba DVD Player. Need suggestion.
Should i uninstall ALL the video players so i can watch it through the Toshiba DVD Player IF i had one ?
 
Are you using VLC ?

Why not use the Toshiba DVD player mit is built for the machine and comes installed with Toshiba software. if you have added another player then it could be conflicting with the Toshiba one
Delete the VLC and use the Toshiba player it works very well and I have never had any problems with them but adding a program that does the same as one already there can cause conflicts
