Because former POTUS Bill Clinton believed their should be a policy addressing gays in the military and so the Congress at that time enacted the Don't Ask Don't Tell rule. Obama has expressed his disagreement with this rule, but is leaving it up to Congress to decide whether or not to keep it. I seriously doubt Congress will eliminate DADT.

Too many Conservative Christians in the military. If they let girls in, then they should let homosexuals in too, but they believe it goes against the bible. Maybe they think God won't be on their side of the war anymore or something. lol.
