Why is it funny when you reply with "ich bin gut" to "wie geht's" in German?

During my German class, I accidentally replied with "ich bin gut" when my teacher asked "wie geht's" (I know the right way is "es geht's mir gut"). He laughed out loud, and told me the right way to say it. When I asked him why it was funny, he didn't really say anything specific. Is there anything particularly funny with my mistake?
