if only 3% are mixed with spanish, why is it even up for debate?

haiti is 95% black and the rest is mixed race, but you never hear people claiming haitians aren't black because of that, so why do people claim filipinos are mixed or not asian if even LESS of their population is mixed?

about 70% of the dominican republic is mixed black and spanish, and another 15% or so is pure black and the rest white. cape verde has similar demographics except more pure blacks and the mix is portuguese, so why do people often force a black label on cape verdeans but say "dominicans arent black"?

double standards D:
Deedee-D, I said I was 1/8 Filipino, and being such I can clearly see that Filipinos are Asian.

They are different countries and they abide by a different code in a way so its confusing when they come to the U.S and everyone here has the "one drop rule" mentality, but thats the way it is. America has never cared if someone was mixed of full black, its all equalled black. In the Caribbean and other places they have named for mixed people and they are NOT black, they are whatever name they are called like Mulatto or Mestizo.

I think its just culture shock......

I don't think you understand....

In the Dominican Republic they classify race totally different than they do here in the U.S. For example someone as dark as Wesley Snipes would not be labeled black in the DR as he would be here in the U.S., he'd be labeled "indio" meaning Indian. Even the darkest skinned Dominican on official government forms are not labeled black because black is usually reserved for Haitians and it has negative connonations to it.

So don't think that just because the official census states that only 15% of Dominicans are black that's it's the truth, it's very misleading.

Why is it even up for debate? LoL...because that supposedly 3% Spanish mestizos in P.I. is just an estimation, an approx..."no one" knows the "exact" percentage of them...for some people it seem less...for others it seem more.....I was born there, I honestly think it should be a little higher than 3% but who cares...I don't think it matters.. a Filipino can be any race anyway...Just because there's a majority of Malayan Filipinos doesn't mean others should be counted out...plus no ones saying that Filipinos are Europeans...

Filipinos being Asian...the reason this became a controversy is because Philippines has "little to no relation with the Mainland Asians"...Yes Filipinos are Asians but they are descendants of a different type of Mongoloids which are unrelated to common Asians...but still are part of the Mongoloid race..."Filipinos (Austronesians) are the Original Islanders"

It only becomes a debate when people assume things about an ethnicity...only uneducated people make it a debate....

People are retarded. No one needs to know how many percentage for all I know I may be Pakistani, Afghani , Khazakistani , Russian , Chinese , Burmese. But I dont bring that up , I just date back to the 3rd generation and say where I was born.

If the map says its in Asia , they are Asian Damnit regardless of their skin , hair , toes , nails bla bla bla.

The sad thing with Dominicans is they are taught White is more beautiful if you go to the island you will see that most of the publicity has white people....they feel if you are lighter you are better, Which is the reason most of them insist they have some Spanish in them, which is kinda sad.

Dominicans speak spanish and are considered part of Latin American.
Cape Verde is right off the coast of Africa
Filipinos are obviously Asians
