Why is HMV so damn expensive?

Your ignoring the fact that a lot of people don't have access to a computer and some that do refuse to shop online. This is the major reason why HMV still exists.
 
If you can, shop on their online shop, the differences in price for most things is ridiculous.

But don't call people morons who shop there, they might not like shopping online and using their card(and don't want to ask others to do it for them), or they like shopping in an actual shop... and believe it or not, there are people who still don't have the internet in their homes.

As for supermarkets, they don't have an awful lot of choice, and they usually(if you are like me) don't have the editions I would like(steelbook for example).
 
What made me laugh is I saw a dispaly recently at my local HMV. 'Disney Blu-Ray: Buy One Get 1 free'. I thought that sounded like a good deal and so went over.Only to see that they'd started pricing individual Blu-Rays at
 
Right first of all. Yes online fraud is a problem, but isn't THAT bad a problem. It's on par with normal high street fraud... It's the same risk. Plus if you take the adequate safety precautions, shopping in the right browser and on the right websites for example... Then that will greatly reduce the risk of fraud. So no excuses there.

And as for preferring to shop in an actual shop. Fair enough when it comes to clothes and food etc, I shop in the high street. But when one goes into a shop like HMV knowing that what they are buying is so much more cheaper online, but yet they still buy it there because 'they prefer to shop in an actual shop'... Well then i'm sorry, they really do have money to burn... Which is fair enough, its their money to waste... But I have more sense than that.

However, I will take the point that some people still don't have the net yet. But i guess i wasn't aiming my comment at those people. And also I'm pretty sure the demographic that shops at a shop like HMV will have an internet connection.
 
It's funny because, in my experience, their online store is one of the cheapest and most reliable on the web! I buy the vast majority of my (new) games, DVRAB and Blu-Ray's from them.
 
I believe the reason why they are still going today is because of their gaming section. I remember reading somewhere that they are wanting to expand more into becoming a gamer's shop because they simply don't make money on dvRAB and music anymore.

However, I don't think that strategy will last either... Considering how cheap games are online now. They just can't compete.

At the end of the day, it's easier to get my CD/Blu Ray/Game at a supermarket and it's a lot cheaper.

I had some vouchers for HMV last Christmas and regretted using them paying for something that's twice as much in a supermarket.
 
I don't find their prices that bad generally. It just depenRAB what you're looking for.

I've found myself buying more from HMV in the past than Amazon or Play. For example I've bought all 4 series of Enterprise for only a few pence more than the online price. And, call me old fashioned, but I like actually picking up a product and being able to view/listen as soon as I get home.

I also prefer to have a choice, I often find that supermarkets don't sell all that I want, at least in HMV I've got a chance to find it. If not its off to the internet I go.

That is true, but I know a lot of people that have been told it's very safe yet they still don't want to use their carRAB online and fair enough. And some people don't know the right websites, a % of people will be easily fooled by a well designed dodgy site unfortunately.

Anyway, doesn't take away from the fact that it was still not on to call people morons because they prefer to buy offline for whatever reason. Expensive or not.
 
I very rarely go into the store (mainly because I don't go to Bluewater often) but I do use the website. I think the website prices vary from the store prices, because I don't think it's that bad. I tend to buy a lot of my cd's/dvRAB online (play.com or hmv)
 
I do feel that it is time that most high street stores looked at the online stores as competition rather than an alternative.

A good ten, fifteen years ago - they could get away with saying we don't compete with online stores, but now with more and more people having the ability to go online and find what they want for cheaper, they really need to up their game. I know there are costs that the online stores just don't but some of the pricing is ridiculous.
