Why is he acting weird?

I've recently been hanging with a guy, we're getting along well and he seems really interested in me. The problem is, over the past few days, he basically ignored me. Today, he asked me whether I'd been telling people he liked me, and I said no, only a close friend which we were only guessing - I was also telling her I liked him. So, I'm sure my friend has been telling people, or at least, discussing it. Now I'm confused, is he mad at me? Mad at my friend? Is he not sure how he feels? And the same day he asked me if I'd been telling people, I decided to ask him if it was true, and he didn't answer me. But I've heard that he told his closest friend he likes me. I don't mind him not liking me and changing his mind, but I just want to know, so I can get over it, and focus on other things.
