Why is everyone online so trippy about first bike?

If I am interested in sport bikes, why would anybody recommend a cruiser? Besides the Ninja 250R, there are other bikes that are cool for a beginner. I just saw a post where the guy said don't get the Ninja 250 because the seat height is 30 inches and it's comparable to a formula 1 car. That's just idiotic! maybe a 1000CC super sport could compare but certainly not a 500cc. I don't think these people even ride sport bikes.
I took the MSF, then practiced on a friends Ninja500. the bike is butt ugly but I rode it just fine in all gears and even through some curves. 2 weeks later I tried another buddies new FZ6R. I loved it more than the Ninja. Again did fine in traffic, short 5 min trip on highway and again in curves. Just last weekend I rode a girlfriends GSXR600 and while the power was noticeably higher, it wasn't a death trap and did NOT compare to a formula 1 car.
I went to a few local bike night events to ask around about bikes. Not one person recommended the Ninja 250R to start on.
 
LOL I thought that formula 1 comparison was a little stretched myself. Opposing it earned me a few thumbs down as well.

You have some generous trusting friends letting you ride their bikes.
After riding the 500, FZ6R and GSXR, I bet a 250 is out of the question huh?

It's good to see somebody who has actually rode the bikes giving their two cents.

I started on a 1997 Ninja ZX-6R. I was in my lower 20s, had experience driving a manual transmission car, and was mature enough not to do foolish crap. It worked out for me but it doesn't work out for everybody.

Sport bikes are ok to start on if you are mature enough to ride responsible. That means getting plenty of practice, wearing proper gear, and not trying to hang with the big boys or show off.

There are 4 main stream 600CC "super" sport bikes generally not recommended for beginners. they aren't automatic death traps but could be dangerous in the wrong hands. But so is a 250.

If you liked it, go for the FZ6R. It's an awesome choice for a first bike. Many of the posters on Y!A see the 6 and automatically rule it out. even though its a 600cc, it's not tunes so racie like the others.

If you think the Ninja is ugly but like the 500cc feel, check out the GS500F. Same 500CCs but looks way better.
 
Getting a Sport Bike for your first bike is like getting a Formula 1 race car for your first car, not a good idea. Any decent Sport Bike can go from zero to deadly faster than you can say "Oh Sh**". An inexperienced rider can get into serious trouble in a wink of an eye.

The Ninja 250R isn't really a true Sport Bike. Just a lot of plastic on a 250CC bike.
