why is economics a social science not a social study?

Economics is a social science because it uses the scientific method. The theories produced by economic study are facts, just like the theories of the physical sciences. Social studies tend to produce less fact and more social understanding or context.

Social Studies includes social science but its goal is to promote civil competence.
Since economics is a study of how the economy works, not necessarily how to make it better, it's a social science.
