Why is congress even discussing hate crime legislation?

Supposed your loved one was killed, would you be any more heartbroken by their loss if someone hated them? I think not!
What does hate have to do with anything? Murderers hate or they would not kill. I just think that labeling something a hate crime diminishes the value of the person not killed by a hater.
I just do not understand the logic in all the "hate" legislation.
Logan you have been drinking too much of the liberal kool-aid. Just how often do you think this happens? This legislation is only for 2 specific groups of people, African Americans and Gay/Lesbians. I guarantee you that very rarely will you see any hate crime charges against anyone who killed a caucasion. So if someone killed a fat person just because they are fat you would deem that a hate crime? How about someone tall or short? What if the crime was a man who hated women? What if a mother killed her child and they could prove she hated the child? Where does it end or are some lives valued more than others?

If someone kills or attempts to kill someone specifically because of their skin color or their sexual orientation, they do it out of pure hate. Those people and those crimes should be punished at a higher extent. If your gay son was murdered, not because he was caught in a gang crossfire or because he was the victim of a robbery gone wrong, but because of who he loves, because of who he loves, wouldn't that make it just a bit harder to take? Wouldn't it make it just a bit more tragic, just a bit more horrific? Because of who he loves...or just the mere fact that he is "different".
Same thought about hate crimes toward people of a different race. Think about it, a person is murdered just because of his skin color or the shape of their nose or eyes. Murdered for simply being born "different". Outrageous.

From the tone of your question, I wouldn't expect you to understand.

It just so happens that most hate crimes can be prevented, as most of those people are perfectly sane & can think logical if they choose to do so. That in and of it self is reason enough to address the issue.

Whereas psycho serial killers & rapist usually are mentally ill or perverted in some way.

Not all crimes evolve from hate, but the ones that do should be addressed.

Of Note - there are different committees in congress that address different issues in the US. What section/committee of congress are you referring to?
