the word "fat" really mean?
Phillipines, it's insulting not to be fat and cultures where food is scarce it is never looked down upon to be fat as you clearly have wealth.

fat, to me, unless one has a thyroid problem or another genetic medical condition, is synonymous for lazy and self-indulging, which shows in one's appearance.

i agree that it shouldn't be hurtful if someone is stating a fact
but if it is teasing and taunting, then yes it can be hurtful
i just think SOME fat people are just TOO sensitive

Technically speaking,FAT is the neutral word to refer to sb who has a lot of flesh in their bones, but these days native speakers of English are using more euphemisms that sound less direct than FAT for example,LARGE is a euphemism to mean FAT.I use euphemisms too.

overweight..unless you mean phat..which of course means pretty hot and tempting

I just think it's how we have been raised. Since we are little, we are taught that in order to be attractive, we have to be thin. So basically, calling someone fat is calling someone ugly. Fat means anything over that stupid model thinness that is impossible for all but a very few to achieve.
