Why is astronomy important?

So that we can learn about our place in the Universe. Also, a great deal about physics can be learned by looking into the heavens.

A more practical reason (if you don't agree with my reasoning so far) is that we could deflect potentially catastrophic impacts and other dangers of outer space.
 
It's a fun subject.

Really gets you day dreaming in class.

Just laying in bed at night thinking about it helps me to go to sleep.
 
Interesting subject.

Gets your mind off the mundane day-to-day Earth bu!!$hit and puts things in a proper perspective.
