Why is a Lincoln Town Car so weak? SOHC 16 valve V8?

'v always LOVED town cars...but this seems kinda weird... it uses a big V8 4.6 Liter engine that only produces around aprox. 220- 240 HP. (depending on model, year etc.) To me that seems sooo underpowered for such a big V8 sedan. I mean, my moms 08 Ford Taurus uses a 3.5 liter V6 that makes like 263-270 HP. I mean why is the HP on the town car so low?? its such a prestigious, luxurious, and pretty expensive car so, I have no idea why the output of the engine is so low. I mean its a V8 that produces a lot less power then almost all new V6 engines. Even a lot of I4 engines exceed the town cars horse power. WHY IS THIS? can someone please explain? And does it have anything to do with the fact that its a single overhead camshaft engine or a 16 valve engine? Is it easy to modify and increase the horse power? can someone explain camshafts and valves to me? Thanks and any advice is WELL appreciated.

Yah thats true... A German BMW m3 from the mid to late 90's I believe, was I4 that could produce about the same amount of horse power as the brand new town cars get. The question of the day is... WHY DOSEN'T FORD USE A MORE MODERN V8 ENGINE LIKE A NEW DE-TUNED MUSTANG ENGINE OR ATLEAST MAKE IT A 24Valve DOHC LIKE Mercury Marauder WAS???!
