Pentagon won't say ship sinking is an act of war
"U.S. officials refused on Thursday to call North Korea's torpedoing of a South Korean warship an act of war or state-sponsored terror, warning that an overreaction could cause the Korean peninsula to "explode."

"The tempered response was an indication of how few options President Barack Obama has, and how volatile the situation is, after an international team of investigators said a North Korean sub torpedoed and sank a South Korean corvette March 26."

Nobody wants to be the one to start a war with North Korea. Remember the Korean War? Besides, we're already at war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Imagine the cost of a big war with the North. Imagine the amount of troops we'd have to send. It's a big deal, and of course you might actually have to raise taxes or do other undesirable things then. Additionally, it would have a terrible impact on South Korea as well and who knows what would happen.

Until the North really forces our hand, we probably will try to avoid conflict with them.

Chosen1: Actually, South Korea took great care not to immediately blame North Korea. The sinking happened something like a month ago, and only now are they affirming what we all knew anyway.
