Why in American sports do the fixtures show the away team 1st. e.g.

Dolphins v Cowboys, playing in Dallas? As far as I know everywhere else the home team is always shown first, e.g. AC Milan v Juventus in the San Siro, Milan.

Is it because Americans are more polite than the rest of us?
