Why I broke up with my Nokia N95

I've never been in a situation where I've listened for 6 hours straight, but I've simultaneously listened for 2.5 hours + GPS for 1 hour of that + web surfing (Opera) for about 1.5 hours and a call or two and I still had 4 bars at the end. I think it should handle 6+ hours after the battery is properly bedded in.

I'm not sure how the N95's battery meter works but on my N80 it would display max bars for most of the day... then as soon as it dropped a bar, the rest of the bars would go really fast. So it became pretty clear that as soon as it dropped a bar that meant low battery heh...

Wow you must have never used your P990, cause it has the same battery as the k790. I had one for 7 months, and I would have to charge mine everyday. Personally i think that the N95 batter is better, based on the processor, and the amount of features it has also.

on esato forums people were even stating getting 3 days out of the p990i with certain batches.

yep i know it was the same battery..

I could get with talking and wifi and camera almost two full days.
with heavy talkikng and camera usage - i could get a day but i never got a battery warning.

Nokia N73's battery is the BEST! I listen to mp3 through out all my lectures (around 6 hours) then do like 2-5 calls, after coming home still almost full charge (one bar goes down or sometimes stay at all bars) ITS THE BEST. N91 is not bad, if i can get that stupid battery to fit in there it will be great!! but i cant oh well i wil live with it, its good enough for NOW.

I hope the E90 will have good battery life, beucase thats going ot be my next phone. and i want ot use GPS ALL the time, not becuase i get lost in my school just i like GPS alot!

For those who tested out the N95 for how long it lasts as an MP3 player, was the phone in Offline mode? Reason I ask is that doing so will result in dramatic differences, and I have a feeling it'd last a lot longer than 5 hours. So, for Dinan's situation, a flight with the N95 as a standalone MP3 player may work out just fine, or at least be a bit better than the reported 5 hours since the phone will be in offline mode for the duration of the flight.

One of the big things I've noticed while playing with battery life is the effect keypad tones have on it. Keypad tones will MURDER the battery life of your phone. After a little over 4 hours of random heavy usage including texting, GPS, WLAN browsing, and a few brief phone calls, I was already down to 4 bars.

There's also some "rules" that may not be so apparent when dealing with a device like this with a sensitive battery. If you're going to be using the phone around the house in one area, throw it on the charger just like you would with a laptop. No sense in draining the battery if you don't have to. If you're going to be in the car, on a call, on GPS, or not, throw it on the car charger. Even if you're on a call, listening to music, using a Bluetooth headset, AND*using the GPS, the phone will still charge at the same rate you're depleting it, at least. If you know you're going to be away from home all day, bring your charger with you. This may not be necessary if you're going to be in the car a lot, (I've never had to do this as of yet) but if you're going to find yourself at a friend's house or somewhere without a lot of phone activity, throw it on the charger. A solid half hour of charging will give you back a lot of bars to last through the rest of the day.

It may not be the best battery, but it certainly is manageable.

They probably do - just to answer the one-minute daily call that comes in over 2.5G (phone not set to dual networks).
That's the ONLY feasible explanation.

Some more details about my mp3 usage w/BT headset. The phone was set to GSM only and not in offline mode (I was getting/sending a couple of SMS'es). AND my mailbox was set to auto poll for new email every hour. Screen was not unnecessarily used (only to read msg & change tracklists). So with that, I managed about 5 1/2 hr's worth of music.

Which, incidentally, surprised me a bit as I was coming from SE Walkman phones (W880 & W950) which if used for the same amount of continuous listening would still have at least 1/2 battery life remaining. (Btw, I'm using a Sony VGP-BRM1 BT receiver that's rated at 15 hrs of music playback and it's a very accurate real-life spec!)

I think that was very well said Johnny, I must admit that yesterdY I Was a little disappointed with the batt life. i listened to mp3's through regular head phones, screen was turned all the way down, i sent/received about 60-70 text, GPS for 15 minutes, internet for about 10 minutes, 1 phone call for 5 minutes. i turned my phone on at 9:35, and by 7:30 it shut it's self off. With the screen being turned all the way down, I thought it would have lasted a bit longer, at least 12 hours. Maybe i need to do more conditioning?

The problem is that sometimes I look at the standby screen on my phone without opening the keypad to check if I have email or whatever (my phone is usually on stealth mode. If I had used the media slide keys, it would remain horizontal. So it's kind of annoying. This could be categorized as a 'feature' perhaps.
