Why High Cholesterol when skinny and no family history of high cholesterol?

My parents tonight use a cheese slicer to slice the butter they put on their bread. My mom eats a pound of butter a weak and uses only homo milk. She visits the doctor once a year and has "low" cholesterol. My dad also has cholesterol in the proper range. None of my grandparents had cholesterol or heart problems.

I am 25 years old, my cholesterol is 6. I weigh 130 pounds and my height is 5'8". My cholesterol has been checked a bunch of different times and comes back high every time. What the heck? I am slim, I do not eat butter at all, I do not drink milk... yet I'M the one with high cholesterol... My doctor says the reason I could have high cholesterol with my healthy lifestyle is because of genetics... but what genetics? My parents have perfect cholesterol and eat animal fats like crazy. I told my doctors this and they didn't know what to say.

A while ago I had Lactic Acidosis that I survived. I was on metformin for PCOS. Could this be the reason I have high cholesterol now because my liver was damaged? I have hormone issues... could this have anything to do with high cholesterol? I started a low animal fat diet half a year ago and it has only helped minimally. I do not eat a lot of greasy foods because of my nearly vegetarian diet I am NOT adopted. Any ideas?
