Why hasn't "Asterix" been made into a T.V. show?

I was surprised when I heard today that the original artist of the series hasn't approved of it, it only seems natural to me. It's the most popular comic book series to come out of Europe and has already spawned its own theme park, several live-action and animated films, a bunch of video games, and some spin-off books. Considering other popular French comic books have gotten T.V. treatment it seems strange. Why hasn't the creator approved, is it his lack of control he'd have over a T.V. show, his expectations for how "Asterix" should be, what is it?
 
It may just be something with the creators not wanting it to be a TV show. It's only a guess, though. I wouldn't imagine they wouldn't have wanted a series, but i could see it.

I do recall reading they wanted to get together a show based on Dogmatix. But it never went anywhere.
 
Bah...Uderzo's a stick in the mud.

He complained about Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra had too 'different humor' and because of that the third Asterix live action movie doesn't have the same director as that one, even though it was an AWESOME movie and was a sucess.

And quite frankly the guy just isn't as talented as Goscinny when it comes to writing, he shouldn't be lecturing others about comedy writing.
 
This is just a guess, but there probably just wasn't enough demand for an Asterix series outside of Europe. Although Asterix is big in Europe, it was never a big hit here in the States. Monica is very popular in her native Brazil and her popularity has spawned her own theme park, but how many people outside of Brazil have even heard of Monica? It's probably the same deal with Asterix.
 
I'm not talking about an "Asterix" show for America, just in general. There certainly is a big enough market in Europe and in other parts of the world, it's just that a French channel wanted to do it but the artist behind the comics wouldn't allow it.
 
Yeah, that's the only real way I can see why a TV series had never been attempted, epecially since the comic itself lends to it very well to that kind of format.

So I guess they were either planning to make a solo film or cartoon series about the character. But I feel that there must have been some mutual agreement that they didn't want to make it a TV series or something.

I would love to see a short series based soley off the comics, in manga into anime form without fillers. i figure they thought film was the best way to get their plot across rather than TV.



Heh. A lot of artistic types are that temperamental, Toutatis bless them. I'd think for sure he's complain about the dull NES game which had no humor at all. I do recall a bunch of Japanese programmers who worked on the Arcade game (I just found about reading this on the official site) wanted to shove ninjas into it somehow, and they all protested.
