Why has 'The Karen Carpenter Story' never been repeated/released on DVD?

I have read so much high praise for this TV made biopic. Apparently it was done very well and has been approved by the carpenters themselves. It focuses the life and downfall of Karen-her battle with anorexia.

I'd love to watch this film but it's nowhere to be found!

During flming Richard Carpenter was understandably difficult with the production and obviously wasnt keen on its distribution onto dvd !

I can't even find it on Region 1 :(

So did Richard Carpenter have lots of input in the film then? I know hardly anything about it's production but seems it would be a more than fair point as to include his view on it.

"Richard Carpenter has said in the liner notes of the "Carpenters Gold: 35th Anniversary Edition" CD, that he regretted making, being apart of, and endorsing this TV movie. He also claims that many of the scenes are fictitious."

It's not available on DVD in the U.S. The other film Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story isn't available either in the US and the UK. By the sound of it, they won't be on DVD for as long as Richard C lives. If it's readily available on DVD now, it's an pirated copy. :o

That's a really odd statement to make...well it's not but i've heard lots of people praise it and many celebrities actually mention the good it did back then (I guess showing the harsh reality of anorexia). But at the end of it all, Richard knew his sister more than anyone so obviously it speaks volume.

But if he was involved with it, how did it end up wrong?

It depenRAB on what the inacuracies were and how much imput he had. He could have just been an advisor. He would only know about stuff if they contacted him.
For example it suposedly contains this.

The film implies Richard Carpenter talked Karen out of making a solo album in 1979. In fact, Karen Carpenter made a solo album, (with the help of Phil Ramone), between 1979 and 1980. The Carpenters's label, A & M, did not like it, so it did not get released until 1996.

I thought it was on region 1 but on investigation its suprisingly not ! ..yes Richard Carpenter was heavily involve d in the film and was unhappy at various things in the film and the people involved found him very difficult to get on with as he was still greiving his sisters sad loss which is understandable i guess...but i thought the film came out very well !

I suppose making the film brought the emotions of losing his sister to the surface ...! films of true life rarely stick to all the true facts!..which is sad really !
