Why has my dog started whining at night? How can I stop it?

I have a 3 year old female labrador, and lately she has started whining and howling in the middle of the night. This has never happened before.
I am working a lot more lately and don't have as much time to spend with her, could she be lonely? Should I get another pet to keep her company?

it might be sign of lonliness...what i can say is when u are at home, spend as much time as u can with her and reassure her that u havent abandoned her because she's used to u being able to spend time with her....or u could try the getting another puppy method...hope that helps...good luck!

Well there are some reasons that might be the cause.
1. Ask the vet if your dog is pregnent (sometimes they whine if they are prgnent)
2. Maybe she is lonely
3. Scared of the dark (same with my dog)
4. Nightmares
5. Misses her parents
6. Hungry
7. Thirsty
I hope those help but just call your vet and she might have the answer!
Try sleeping with sometimes at night. Or give her some medicine perscribed by a vet. (I suggest banfield hospital in PetsMart)

Your dog is probaly lonley because she is not used to your new working hours. Spend as much time as you can with her. Ask your vet, though, because it could be a sign of bladder control problems. Does your dog have to go to the bathroo a lot during the day?? But, I don't think it is. Once, I had washed my dog's sleep cooshon. He would not go to sleep in it and would wake up in the middle of the night and cry. If you have washed your dogs sheets lately and it has only been a day or 2, you might want to consider this. She also might feel that she has not had enough excersize. Are you still taking her for walks, even though you work more?? Most likely, though, she is lonley.

I'd bet money it's because she misses you. Usualy they whine to get your attention to alert you to something (like when they have to go potty) and I'm sure she's trying to wake you up to get you to acknowledge her. If you don't already sleep with her, I'd try letting her, and possibly cuddling with her, and petting her to sleep. Another pet would probably help, dogs have that "pack" like sense, they are most comfortable around others. They could play with eachother and tire eachother out all day long.

How cute though, I hope it gets better for you!

She is whining at night because the pubs aren't open till then. To stop her send her to AA(Alocoholics Anonymous)

Maybe she needs to go out, because her system is reacting to a different routine. But this would not make her howl.

When your dog actually howls, and much, she is probably seeing somebody you cannot see who has lately taken to hanging around your place. Such a being can skare your dog and deliberately., pulling pranks and taking advantage of the dog.
She might shiver. Sit there with her, sit high on a stool, take no nonsense, talk loud, swear if you feel like it, and order this spirit creep out of your house in the name of somebody that creep has to answer to and watch your dog now and then for reaction. That will tell you the creep has left your place. Thru the walls, windows, it doesn't matter. Reassure the dog.

it sounds to me like she needs company. try spending more time with her and talk to her a lot. dogs feel comfort when you talk to them in a nice way, especially when it's somebody they love that's doing the talking

She's probably lonely, But she could be in mating season. Has she been de-sexed? If it's loneliness, try putting a radio on low where she sleeps to keep her company.

first of all is your dog inside or outside if outside she could just be seeking attention as she is lonely and scared
i have 2 dogs an alakan malamute and golden retriver cross both female and both use to whin at night until vet told me put a peice of your clothing in kennel that way dog has your scent or put a radio turned on next to dog ,it is true what they say believe it or not music does soothe the savage beast i done both of these thing for a week then got rid of radio and left old clothes now no problems

As An Ex Breeder it is a pretty good Indication that your Dog is getting cold a soft underlay and quilt top will do you may have to stay an hour si it gets the Idae but labs are pretty quick learners
