With other words, can i build a website with recipes and add an image to each recipe, and just place a link to the source? This would be the same as google image search, wouldn't it?

Because the majority of computer users cannot understand that Google is just another search engine like Yahoo, Amazon, Answers, Ask, Creative Commons, etc.
They think they can only search the internet with google.

Google is a search engine. They *find* images. They display *thumbnails* of the images in order to guide people to the page that the original image appears on. The robots.txt standard allows people to opt-out (of all robots).

Taking an image and using it to illustrate your own work is completely different.

When developing a site, be sure to include META tags on your files. META tags are keywords that search engines look for. You can find a website that can generate these tags and you would put it on your HTML/PHP editor.

Some website providers have a paid subscription to forward your site to several search engines which may also scan your pictures in time and include it on their search system.

Can't see any problem. One picture of Chicken Kiev, for example, looks much like any other picture of Chicken Kiev
