Christmas symbols including candy canes.? .....and anything pertaining to Santa Claus? One parent at the school board meeting claimed, 'If we allow Santa, what do we say if a child brings in a swastika? Do we allow that too?' Has U.S. society become so afraid of religious beliefs that a picture of Santa Claus creates the same fears as seeing a Nazi symbol? Do many people truly quake in fear when they see Santa Claus and other religious symbols that have become so secularized that most people probably don't realize that Santa is based on St. Nicholas?
At Chelmsford schools all religions are freely allowed to be included (or not included) by displaying any symbol or decoration they wish in the "holiday room". So I'm not clear on why THIS particular school claims that some law REQUIRES them to forbid any item with any kind of religious significance. (What of all the other schools in Massachusetts and the nation that established no such new rules this year?)
I keep seeing put-downs on the Internet belittling those who claim there is a "war on Christmas" in the U.S. At the same time, every Christmas there seems to be these wacky stories from various communities of ....uh.....a war on holiday symbols??? So what is happening? And why can't U.S. society somehow clarify the legal issues so there is not so much variance in how communities deal with such basic questions of religious liberties?

False. I saw a news video of the Superintendent of Schools there claim that "the law" required the school to ban such religious items.
