god is a manifestation of the wants, needs, desires and expectations of the culture that conceived it.
Almost all advanced societies get that way by stealing resource, committing genocide, destroying the natural environment, and fostering an internal culture that, while it may have etiquette on the outside, the people are hateful, vengeful, jealous and psychotic on the inside.
So, as it manifests. Indra, the god of agriculture before India became an Empire turned into the god of WAR after becoming Empire and creating the most rigid caste system ever conceived.
When Christianity was illegal, the teachings of its founder were pacifist. When Constantine converted and made it state religion..it became a religion of conquest and crusades.

Define what you consider advanced
Define cruel
Is God cruel or the rules?
Or do you just prefer the rules of whatever lesser advanced society you live in?
The only thing clear about your question is..You don't like God. period.
That is why all you got was a bunch of other ppl. also saying how god is messed up and not making any sense. But that is all you wanted anyway I suspect. (I am being generous. It is either that or you really do not know how to form a question)

God is the same today, yesterday and tomarrow. He is perfectly just in every way. He makes no mistakes. Their is only one God. He made you and me and everything else you see. Imagine thinking up the idea, then drawing it up on a peice of paper and then making say for instance the human eye. Now someone that intelligent would probabley have a difficult time trying to be understood by beings of significantly lower intelegence. What matters to me is that the next breath I take after I take my last breath here will be in the place I can worship Him forever.We may never fully be able to understand his ways. I trust him though anyway. This is where faith comes in, I think...
