Why dont you want the ball to land in the endzone, when a kicker punts it after a 4th...

...down play? Like after a team does not convert on 3rd down, and has to punt the ball to the opposing team....why cant it land in the endzone.....might be a dumb question...but im new to football? is there lost in yards or something?

also what does touchback mean?
