Why don't the courts pay candidates who are served via subpoena, how can you

force someone without paying them? I just don't understand why no compensation is offered for candidates who are served but pretty much have no involvement with the case.

Why do the courts feel it's fair to demand someones presence when they've done nothing wrong (generally speaking) and not compensate them for their time or missed work?

Actually, most states require a subpoenaed witness to be paid a fee. Its not much, but its something.

Anyway, even in places where it isn't required, this is just a price we pay to live in a civil society where things are settled by the courts. You may get pulled in to court to testify in someone else's case, but they might one day get pulled in to testify in yours.
