Why don't the bride and groom push the wedding band all the way down the

finger when they exchange rings? like after they say the vows, and they put the ring on each other's finger, they never (that i've seen) push it all the way down the finger. just past the knuckle.
well i see it on tv lol. in real life, i can never tell.

I have seen in the summer if it is too hot and their hands swell that they may not push them on all they way, but other than that I would have no idea why they wouldn't

I think as you are saying the vows you push it half way down, then when you are finished you push it all the way. I've seen it done at every wedding I've been to.

I've heard that as you are saying your vows, you push the ring half way down because you haven't fully committed yet. When you finish your vows you push it all the way down symbolizing that you have fully committed yourself.

Well...try putting a ring on someone else. Sometimes it gets slightly stuck at the knuckle. When you are putting a ring on your own finger, you will push your two hands towards each other to get the ring past the knuckle. Well, when you are putting a ring on another person, that pushing of the hands towards each other is not as smooth as when you do it to yourself because your pushing at one angle and the other person is either pushing back at the wrong angle or your pushing the ring over their knuckle is pushing their hand backward, etc.

Anyway, people don't want to look stupid by trying to force the ring over their partner's knuckle. So when they reach that resistance point, they just stop and the partner will pull the ring up the rest of the way.

I've only seen people put it on all the way... but maybe people are worried about pushing too hard? No idea, never seen it stop after the knuckle like that, weird...

Good luck!

My husband and I got married on an incredibly hot and sticky day. Our bands wouldn't fit with the swelling of our fingers, so we only put them as far as we could on each other, then struggled with our own. ;-) Other than that, I've never really noticed. I assume they'd be put all the way on.

Perhaps it makes for a better picture on TV?

If the rings are made to fit well, then it can take a bit of work to get them over the knuckles. Sometimes there's an awkward wait while the bride tries to work the ring on and vice versa. Better just to put it halfway on, get through the rest of the ceremony and then let the other person finish putting on the ring. You can do that sort of thing faster yourself then by letting another person do it.
