Why dont religious people build beautiful monuments anymore?

I live in a country full of Pagan monuments of great beauty, also of early Celtic crosses, neolithic standing stones and the like, why whenver a religious building is erected now it must be an eyesore?(like a mega church or a mega mosque)?

Do they have poorer taste now?
 
There is little beauty love and peace in the world or in the hearts of man to inspire such colossal monuments of architecture.

Simply over sized, magnified in stature, monstrous carbuncles.
