Why don't people discuss things like segregation more often?

In regular society, racism is frowned upon. But it seems as if in prison it is encouraged. The prisoners all separate themselves by race and they only hang out with people from their race. Racial violence and race riots in prison aren't uncommon. They just say, "well that's just the way things are in prison. That's just the way people are by nature." But if people are like that by nature, then how come people outside of prison don't make efforts to segregate themselves? Actually they do segregate themselves but it isn't blatant and outright. But there are probably some serious underlying reasons for people segregating themselves in regular society. It is as if nobody discusses it. We frown upon it publicly but privately our actions say a different thing. We segregate ourselves.
At least people in prison are honest about their racism.

Very Good, you have displayed abstract awareness.

In response to your question, btw, it's because certain types of individuals don't like to discuss things they have little understanding of.

Hench why you'll never hear preppy kids talking about war.
