Why don't more Belizeans embrace Latino Culture also?

I am Belizean born here in the states but I speak English, Creole, and Spanish all fluently. All Belizeans eat Latino foods similar to that of Mexico like Salbutes, Garnaches, Tamales, etc,, We listen to Punta, reggaeton, etc.. which is a Latin Genre but yet a lot of us give people the impression that all we are is, West Indian. Some of us are of West Indian decent (me) but we don't embrace our other side, Why? I grew up in Belize and my family has raised me to be proud of both Caribbean and Latin heritage... What do you people who are Belizean, Latino, and West Indian think?? Let me know
 
I completely know how you feel. I am belizean relatively dark skinned and i speak spanish and english. I think other belizeans do that because its a diverse culture so not everyone in belice has spanish ancestry like me and you. my parents have raised me as an afro latino. but when people call me black i am more than happy to say i am.
 
well as a fellow belizean I've always wondered the same thing. but i don't embrace the latin culture because i'm REALLY dark and ppl wouldn't belive me if i said anything about being latin! and i also don't know any spanish: (
 
Well, I'll be happy to answer that. I do personally believe that belizeans embrace Latino culture but remember, not all belizeans are of Latino heritage so there also has to be a west Indian/Caribbean aspect. I am currently a freshman in College and when i tell people that i'm from Belize;I get the feeling that people don't know a lot about it. For example, some people think its in Africa just because I don't use the N-word in every other sentence. Also, some people are surprised that i don't speak Spanish fluently ( i do speak Spanish) because they think it's an all Latino country. Every part has to be represented, "that which make us different unites us".
