before we sell a gun take the imprint of the bullet and put it in the computer's like we do fingerprint's so that when we find murdered people with bullets in them we will know what gun fired the bullet and who it was sold to which will at least give detectives an early lead

Reliability and cost are the big factors. Why not take DNA from everyone when they are born?

It's been suggested many times and rejected as impractical.
There are already somewhere between 250,000,000 and 300,000,000 guns in circulation in the US without such records.. It would serve little purpose to start keeping records on new purchases.
It would, however, be another attempt, by gun control advocates, to
find out who has guns in the Us as a first step to removing them from the citizenry

a ballistic fingerprint isn't like a fingerprint. It doesn't exist until after its fired. It would be easier to put trackers in bullets that are sold.

because if you shoot a gun often enough, the ballistics will change from the first test firing.
