Why don't American news reporters FIGHT alongside soldiers anymore?

During the Vietnam War, newspaper journalist Sean Flynn was embedded with a number of American Army units. During one engagement on a heavily-forested hill, Flynn saw a soldier die after being hit by a sniper round.

Instead of cowering, Flynn picked up the dead man's rifle and helped charge the hill, killing several enemy forces in the process.

Flynn eventually died while doing undercover reporting deep inside the jungles of Cambodia.

Why don't American journalists today have those sorts of balls? How many journalists have picked up the rifles of dead soldiers in Iraq or Afghanistan and helped the remaining soldiers complete their missions?

They do not write about the purpose behind the fight. They choose to write about the shocking, the horror, the drama and anything that will attract the larger audience and ratings.

Truth, honor, valor, and positive change has nothing of interest anymore.
