Why doesnt my tv look like that?

I have an LCD flat screen tv and hd digital cable but still my tv picture doesnt look like the tvs at walmart. so i bought an hdmi cable because i thought that it would mak the picture really clear but the hdmi cable will only plug into the tv and not the cable box. can someone tell me how to get my tv picture super clear cause i have no idea
