Why Doesn't Canada Build Up it's Military? ?

I am a Proud Canadian and am very proud of our men and women serving overseas. If You are in the military I thank you! My question is simple, why doesn't Canada BULK up its military. I know that there's a million things that needs to be done to get it to happen and that it's a lot more complicated than wiggling your nose and watching it happen, but we are a strong smart and innovative people. I think that if countries like Turkey or Russia can build up there military rather quickly, why doesn't Canada. We could even start making our own jet fighters with Bombardier. If anyone could give there opinions and thoughts on this please do so, but if you are planning to make a stupid remark against our military just save it... In close I know our forces are capable but why not make them better by making jets, tanks, guns etc. here and spend more on the armed forces?
 
You need to ask this in the Politics section. What you are talking about is in the hands of the politicians.
