It does. In the past few years some schools are concentrating on the total score out of 2400 points, which is where writing is included with math and reading. But for the most part, most of the focus gets put on the traditional 1600 maximum.
But even if you apply to a school who doesnt really look at writing, if your score is top notch, they'll certainly take that into consideration.
