Why does the volume on my 1991 Mazda Miata radio get very low when it is cold? ?

If it is over 70 degrees the radio plays at a normal level when it is cranked all the way up, but when it is cold you can barely hear it even turned up full blast. Does anyone have any experience with this type of problem?
