Why does the Quran and Hadith give a very negative image of the Prophet Muhammad?

i'll give you my view..........
if the prophet was so bad and portrayed with such a negative image why do thousands of people a day convert and say the shahada

I bear witness that there is no deity but, Allah, and I bear witness that Mohammad is the messenger of Allah..

why would i revert to such an evil religion if i didn't believe it was the truth i have not been brainwashed since i know no muslims and live in a none muslim town.
 
Have muslims ever wondered as to how this could have happened? Could this very same Quran and hadith that muslims use as their guide been tampered with by people who wrote it and who wanted to give the islamic prophet a bad image?

And i also feel that the stubborn refusal by muslims to debate such issues has not helped the cause either

Can you tell me your views on this?
