Why does the Montreal media bash their hockey team so much?

I'm a Carolin Hurricanes fan and our media mostly focuses on the positives and improvements that our team makes. The Montreal media writes so many negative blogs about their team I don't see why anyone would want to play there. IMHO.

Well, they won the Stanley Cup more than any other tam (23 I believe), and so the city is used to winning. They haven't won since 1993, so t has been a while, and they are getting frustrated. Add that to this being their 100th anniversary, so they think that their team is supposed to win the Cup. Also, right now they are playing atrocious hockey , so that is making the media hound on them even more. I wouldn't want to play for them this season either. I do agree with you, maybe if the fans would support them instead of scrutinizing everything done wrong, maybe they would have a chance of winning again. I don't see them making the playoffs this year.

I think the media in all Canadian cities is more critical of their city's hockey team compared to their counterparts in the US. Hockey takes precedence over any other sport in Canada and with that comes the negative and the positive. Unfortunately the negative seems to always get more focus. There's a lot of pressure to perform well here.

The Canadiens are celebrating their 100th anniversary this season and is thee "Hockey Mecca" with high aspirations for a big year after last season. The team has been less than stellar the last half of the season and the Montreal sports reporters and writers will be even more harsh when the season ends early.

Anyone growing up in my time wanted to be a Montreal Canadien. Again it's that history, nostalgia, Mecca thing!
