Why does the mercury not move down through the copper if its denser?

If a drop is of mercury is placed on copper it stays on top. why is taht if mercury is denser than copper

Mercury doesn't move down through the copper because the mercury is in the shape of a solid. The particles in the copper are too close together for the mercury to go through.
