Why does the "Maint Req" light on my '05 Toyota RAV4 blink 6 times when I turn the car

on, then stop? I bought our RAV4 used and w/o a instruction/guide information. The car has 40,000 miles on it. I'm thinking its a 10,000 mile check up.

This light comes on at every 5000 miles interval. If you are geting regular oil changes - I do our Toyotas every 3,000 miles - you may want to just reset the light. Turn the key to the first position - not starting the engine - while holding down the odometer trip meter button. The display should go to 000000 and the light will go out. The odometer reading will go back to normal afterwards.

It means that you will be needing maintenance soon and once you hit the exact mileage it will become solid.
